Troutman Relaxing Incisions

Troutman Relaxing Incisions flatten the steep axis and steepen the flat axis due to coupling. This operation differs from the usual arcuate relaxing incisions in that it is usually performed in the presence of a pre-existing corneal transplant and compression sutures are applied on the flat astigmatic meridian. Wedge
Corneal Wedge Resection

The Wedge Resection is performed on the flat corneal meridian. This operation steepens the flat axis and also flattens the steep axis, again due to coupling. The Wedge resection is capable of much larger astigmatic corrections than Troutman Relaxing Incisions. To see a step by step description of the technique click here or on the diagram below.
